About Phil Roger

It is customary for spiritual teachers to give a summary of their spiritual evolution. So, I will share the highlights of my journey.

Part 1 of 3

  • My path began at a early age. I was forced to attend a Baptist church with my Mother. My first baptism connected me to Jesus but I totally rejected the church.

  • I had chats with God deep in the woods as a Boy Scout and discovered Native American spirituality then and the power of nature.

  • I discovered Zen in high school through the Beat poets, and I devoured Zen Flesh, Zen Bones.

  • I switched from art to psychology and back to art at East Texas State University and ended up with art education certification.

  • During this period, after a personal tragedy in 1968, out of despair, I began to have very intense mystical experiences and was clueless on what to with them.

  • In 1969 I begin teaching art in the Rio Grande Valley near the Mexican border and the despair and mystical experiences continued.

  • At that time I met a guy who began telling me about Paramahansa Yogananda, who I was vaguely aware of in high school as I had The Autobiography in my hands for a biology report on yoga.

  • He gave me his copy and I dove into it and began to study the teachings and practices through the Self Realization Fellowship correspondence materials.

  • After a year or so I returned to Dallas with a new wife and there we met Swami Satchidananda, helping to establish an Integral Yoga institute there.

In Conclusion...

After fifty years of spiritual adventure, the autumn of my life brings me to the edge of knowing, offering me the only acceptable option. To leap into the vast unknown. To experience with my total being the fullness of my own mind essence and to cut through the mental, egoic obstacles that obstruct my true nature and it’s expression in this precious, sacred NOW. I have also realized, beyond doubt, that there is a loving intelligence that is magnetically attracting us all back into oneness, into unity with all that is. And if we can be still and relax ,by grace and a bit of effort, we all can experience the immeasurable magnificence of our own True Nature. We are literally One with the Source of All That Is!

Teachers & Influences

Teachrs and Influencs

These are some of the people who have inspired and influenced me throughout my life. Some have been Spiritual Teachers from whom I have received blessings, initiations, and empowerments. Others have shaped my world view through their art, music, ideas, and writings. I consider them all contributors to my inner world and each an expression of Spirit. To me, the sacred is not always wearing robes!
